Stein, Jackson announce $6 million settlement for the city of Canton over paper mill closure

Governor Josh Stein and Attorney General Jeff Jackson announced they have reached a settlement with Pactiv Evergreen after the company’s sudden closure of one of their paper mills breached a contract with the state.  Stein filed the lawsuit In 2023 while he was serving as attorney general and Jackson continued to pursue the case his predecessor started, one that he described as “a very straightforward matter of an agreement being broken.”

GOP Authors Bill That Could Threaten the Voting Rights of Millions

The SAVE Act would not allow proof of name change or a marriage certificate as acceptable proof of identity, impacting anyone with birth certificates that don’t match their current legal names. Additionally, driver’s licenses and military IDs—including REAL IDs— would not be sufficient forms of documentation to prove citizenship. Election workers could face 5 years in prison for helping register voters who lack required documentation, even if that citizen is eligible to vote.
