Vietnamese Electric Car Manufacturer Picks North Carolina

North Carolina has attracted the likes of many global corporations over the years. The Vietnamese electric car manufacturer known as Vinfast chose North Carolina as the site of its production plant.

The plant will break ground in Chatham County with VinFast investing $4 billion in building the facility. VinFast is expected to bring about 7,500 jobs to the area by 2027 with an average salary of $51,000 a year according to the state Commerce Department. VinFast chose North Carolina over 12 other states to call home just southwest of Raleigh.

“VinFast’s transformative project will bring many good jobs to our state, along with a healthier environment as more electric vehicles take to the road to help us reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” Gov. Roy Cooper said in a statement.

When fully functional, the plant can manufacture up to 150,000 cars per year. The state has agreed to invest in site preparation, road improvements and other infrastructure work.

Gov. Stein continues the fight for more affordable energy bills

“Duke Energy’s proposed rate hike is simply too high and comes as the company is also retreating on more affordable clean energy. At a time when families are struggling to make ends meet, we should be doing everything we can to make life more affordable, not less. I will continue to fight on behalf of every North Carolinian to lower costs and grow the economy,” said Stein.

Governor Stein Proposes $13.5 Billion Federal Aid Package for Western NC

The Governor’s message was rooted in a stark disparity: while the federal government has committed roughly $7 billion to North Carolina since the 2024 storm, that figure represents only 12% of the estimated $60 billion in total damages. By contrast, Stein noted that major disasters like Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy saw federal coverage closer to 70%.
