State Sen. Rachel Hunt To Run For Lieutenant Governor

NC State Sen. Rachel Hunt has announced her candidacy for lieutenant governor in 2024. Hunt, a Charlotte Democrat, said she’s running to bring “honor and integrity back to the office.”

The lessening amount of honor and integrity associated with the NC Lt. Governor’s office can be attributed to our current Lt. Governor Mark Robinson; Robinson has made headline after headline for his offensive remarks about the LGBTQ+ community and his support of a total abortion ban

“I’ve had a front-row seat to the damage that Lt. Gov. Robinson has done to our state and the office,” Hunt said in a statement. “North Carolinians deserve leaders that are focused on the right priorities like expanding access to affordable health care, increasing the minimum wage, investing in our schools, and cleaning up the water we drink and air we breathe.”

Hunt, the daughter of former Gov. Jim Hunt, has been around politics all her life but only recently became an elected official when she defeated former Rep. Bill Brawley for a House seat in 2018. She moved to the Senate in January after the November election.

Hunt has joined an already crowded field, as former Spring Lake Mayor Chris Rey, a Democrat, and former aide to previous Lt. Gov. Dan Forest Hal Weatherman, a Republican, has announced their candidacy as well.
