“Forever committed to philanthropy and service to the common good of all humanity.” That’s how Dr. Lorenza Wilkins describes himself as he campaigns for North Carolina’s 25th House District.

The Democratic nominee has resided in Nash County for over 20 years, and during that time he has served youth, small business owners, and vulnerable communities in North Carolina through a variety of organizations.

Wilkins holds  Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Business Business Administration from Columbia Southern University. Through his professional experience in human resources, leadership, and entrepreneurship Wilkins understands the importance of career preparedness, particularly for youth.  In 2009, Wilkins co-founded the nonprofit Compass Youth Program. Compass provides community-based educational programs for young people in grades K-12. These programs are meant to engage young people, by fostering their self-awareness and strengthening their bonds with their community to get them career-ready.

In addition, Wilkins has worked toward creating a better future for North Carolina’s youth as the Senior Director at the non-profit Made in Durham, which aims to create an education-to-career pipeline for children and young adults in the Durham area. While at Made in Durham, Wilkins worked with youth to ensure their personal success and economic mobility.

Wilkins is committed to prioritizing economic opportunity and growth if he’s elected into the House. His goal is to continue to bring businesses to the state that will create jobs and increase the quality of life for North Carolinians. Wilkins has served on the Leadership Council of the National Small Business Association (NSBA) and it’s clear he supports increased economic opportunity in North Carolina via small businesses and national companies alike.

Though Wilkins himself has put in years of hard work to secure economic growth for North Carolina youth and small businesses, he acknowledges that even more work needs to be done. “I am proud of the opportunities for shared prosperity among North Carolina families, but there is still work to do. That is why I am excited to announce my election campaign” Wilkins says.

And as a state legislative candidate, he fights not just for economic prosperity, but prosperity and freedom in every aspect of our lives. Endorsed by Planned Parenthood, Wilkins states he is proud to be recognized by the organization and looks forward to working hand- to protect reproductive rights in North Carolina. Additionally, Wilkins has been endorsed by the NC AFL-CIO and acknowledges that “Labor unions are part of what keeps our state strong”.  And when it comes to our environment, Wilkins acknowledges that climate change is a very real threat to us as a nation and a state, a threat he plans to tackle head-on.  “I am ready,” Wilkins says, “to get to work for this community and North Carolinians.”
Wilkins is running for House District 25 and will be running against Republican incumbent Rep. Allen Chesser.

Many mail-in ballots have already been cast and early in-person voting begins Oct. 17. For more information on important election dates, offices up for election, and other voting tools, visit the North Carolina Board of Elections website.
