Gov. Stein Celebrates Biogen’s $2 Billion Investment in North Carolina

A leading biotech company is celebrating its 30th anniversary in the Triangle area.

North Carolina Governor Josh Stein, joined by Biogen leaders and local leaders, celebrated the state’s biotech leadership along with a recent $2 billion investment towards expanding its presence in the state.

“North Carolina is a global leader in life sciences, and Biogen has been at the heart of that story for three decades,” stated Governor Josh Stein. “This new $2 billion investment means more innovation, more good-paying jobs, better health, and a stronger economy.”

Biogen held the celebration at its Morrisville site earlier this month to commemorate its three-decade milestone. The Biotech leader announced a $250,000 investment towards Durham Technical Community College, which will be used for the construction of a new life sciences facility and to strengthen a future talent pipeline in the state.

“Durham Tech has a great certification program, and that really helps get people interested in the biotech industry,” Melissa Porazzo, the vice president and general manager of Biogen’s facility at Research Triangle Park, told CBS 17. “And so Biogen’s donation will help create a lab there to continue to foster that.”
According to the Governor’s Office, Biogen employs over 1,500 North Carolinians and manufactures therapies for patients living with neurological diseases like multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease, among others.

My ACA premium is increasing 240%

My husband and I are small business owners, so we rely on the Affordable Care Act for health care coverage. We currently pay $400 per month for medical and dental care. But, because of Republicans’ refusal to fix the crisis they’ve created, our monthly medical health premium is expected to cost us 240% more in 2026. And my daughter, a Medicaid recipient, could lose coverage altogether.
