An 18-and-a-half-foot tall Fraser fir from Cline Church Nursery in Fleetwood, North Carolina, has become this year’s White House Christmas Tree.
“Some of the kids said they had never seen a tree so big before,” President Biden stated.
The latest tree marks the 15th year a North Carolina tree has been selected as the official White House Christmas Tree.
Every two years, the National Christmas Tree Association holds a contest in which industry experts and consumers can choose which nurseries will provide for the White House and the vice president’s residence. The tradition has continued for 58 years, with the association choosing Cline Church Nursery as the 2023 Grand Champion Grower.
As of this year, North Carolina’s nurseries have been chosen more than any other state in the nation.
According to a national study, North Carolina is the second-largest Christmas tree producing state in the country – with the state producing over 20% of the Real Christmas Trees in the U.S.
This year, one of its very own Christmas trees will stand tall in the White House’s Blue Room, which boasts around 50,000 guests of President Bidens throughout the holiday season.
For next year, the 2024 White House Christmas Tree will also come from a nursery in North Carolina. Cartner Christmas Tree Farm, from Newland in Avery County, was selected as the 2024 Grand Champion Grower.
