Michele Morrow has been making headlines after a video resurfaced showing her calling for former President Donald Trump to use military force to remain in power after losing the 2020 election.
On January 6, 2021, Morrow was in Washington, D.C., and posted a now-deleted video on Facebook of her marching to the Capitol in a large crowd, saying she was there to “stop the steal” and “take back America.”
Later that night, after rioters stormed the Capitol building resulting in several officers and civilians being injured, millions of dollars of property damage to the Capitol building, and many arrests, Morrow started a livestream on Facebook in which she praised Trump and called for the arrest of those who certified the 2020 election. “He can still evoke the executive order against voter fraud, and now he has every player that participated in his sights and they can all be arrested for treason,” Morrow stated in the video.
However, Morrow followed that statement by saying that if law enforcement and the Department of Justice won’t act, Trump will “have to” enact the Insurrection Act that “completely puts the constitution to the side.” The Insurrection Act, an act that dates back to 1807, allows the President of the United States to employ military power to suppress rioting and civil disorder.
Morrow, who has been a controversial candidate since announcing her run for state superintendent, has a history of sharing anti-LGBTQ+ and anti-government rhetoric, as well as conspiracy theories on her social media accounts. She has called for the deaths of prominent democratic political figures, called schools indoctrination centers, and often denies the results of the 2020 elections.
Though Morrow has held such strong opinions on Trump, the 2020 election, Democratic politicians, and schools, much of her commentary has been removed and her accounts deleted. Only remnants to be salvaged by groups like Say No To Extremists, a North Carolina-based anti-extremist group, and websites like https://www.michellemorrow-nc.com that have archived many of her posts.
Morrow is set to face Mo Green, the Democrat candidate for State Superintendent of Public Instruction and former superintendent of Guilford County Schools, in November.
