Safiyah Jackson, Democratic candidate for House District 37, is bringing decades of experience as a leader in education and community building to the ballot this November.

Through her multiple jobs and volunteer experiences, Jackson understands that when you show up for parents, children, schools, and the workers of our state, everyone benefits. Her time as an educator and nonprofit executive has given her the experience of uplifting and empowering her community and those who serve it.

Jackson is currently the Chief Strategy Officer for The North Carolina Partnership for Children (NCPC) and has worked at the organization since 2018. The NCPC is a statewide nonprofit that funds local operations in all 100 North Carolina counties that work to bring early childhood developmental opportunities to every child in North Carolina to prepare them for success in school and the world.

Jackson’s leadership experience also includes her work as the Training Director at McCormick Center for Early Childhood Leadership, where she developed a framework to expand funding for school leaders. As evidenced by her commitment to public service and early education, Jackson strongly believes in creating an environment where all leaders are empowered and can thrive for the betterment of the people they serve.

Jackson is no stranger to being a leader and ambassador for those around her and she plans to bring that leadership to the State House. According to her campaign website, Jackson holds an “evidence-based utilitarianism” political philosophy, which she describes as making decisions based on “1) applying data/evidence/research; 2) understanding the experiences and stories of those who would be impacted; and 3) weighing the options that cause the least harm to the fewest people.”  Jackson will fight for the dignity, freedom, and opportunity of all around her just as she’s done for the past two decades.

For the children of North Carolina, she will challenge our ranking as last in the nation for education and put teachers, staff, students, and parents first to ensure everyone is empowered to be their best selves. For the safety of the public, she will fight for common sense gun safety laws so we can all feel safe in our communities. She will fight for reproductive freedom in North Carolina so that every individual can have access to medical needs they feel are right for them. Whether it be access to IVF, contraceptives, or abortion care, Jackson believes medical decisions should be made by a person and their doctor, not by politicians seeking to limit personal choice. Additionally, to uplift us all, Jackson will tackle minimum wage, childcare costs, and the costs of housing so no family will have to make impossible financial choices between necessities.

On her campaign website, Jackson displays a quote from American educator and writer Margaret J. Wheatley, “There is no greater power for change than a community discovering what it cares about.”

Jackson cares about the people of North Carolina and is running for State House District 37 to bring opportunity, freedom, and dignity to those she will represent.
