Gaston County Resident Arrested In Connection To January 6th Attack On The Capitol

The FBI raided the home of a Gaston County man believed to have ties with right-wing group Proud Boys. Jeremey Bertino’s home in Belmont was raided for the second time as the FBI believes he is the new leader of the Proud Boys. Federal officers seized a cache of handguns and rifles along with thousands of rounds of ammunition.

According to the News & Observer, Bertino is the sixth resident of the Charlotte area with some connection to the attack on the capitol on January 6th, 2021. As of yet Bertino has not been charged with any crimes connected to January 6th or the raid on his home. So far at least 20 residents of North Carolina have been arrested with connections to the attack.

Last month, the North Carolina leader of the Proud Boys, Charles Donohoe, pled guilty to “to conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, and assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers.” Donohoe was the first to plead guilty in the federal probe into the January 6th attack and has promised to testify against other defendants.
