Gov. Tim Walz Makes First Stop in NC as VP Candidate, Says They ‘Expect to Win Here’

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz recently made his first stop in North Carolina since becoming the Democratic vice-presidential nominee when he attended a fundraising event in Raleigh along with Gov. Roy Cooper.

According to WRAL, the fundraiser was an invitation-only event, but before speaking to donors, he and Cooper made some stops around town.

The first place Walz went after his plane landed was on a trip to a Raleigh Cook Out with Cooper. Walz ordered a mint chocolate chip milkshake and Cooper ordered an M&M milkshake.

The Minnesota governor was a big fan of the treat.

“My team thought that was a photo opportunity shake,” Walz told the media. “I ate the whole thing.”

Before heading to the fundraiser, Walz and Cooper made a stop at the North Carolina Democratic Party headquarters and brought cookies for the workers and volunteers. The two governors spoke with people who were phone banking and Walz even got on the phone with a few supporters, then shook hands, took selfies and spoke to the staffers there.

Walz told them the Harris-Walz campaign is taking the state seriously.

“Sixty-eight days is nothing,” he said. “Sleep when you’re dead.

We expect to win here,” Walz added. “I think we know, [it’s] very difficult for a Republican candidate to win the White House if they can’t win North Carolina. It’s that simple.”

North Carolina hasn’t voted for a Democratic presidential candidate since 2008 when Barack Obama won the state and the election.

Walz, who was in Raleigh while Harris was campaigning in Savannah, Georgia, said that Harris has brought joy back into politics and he wants people to understand that they can belong to something bigger than themselves.

“This is a gift the rest of the world would love to have. The ability to self-govern, the ability to talk about problem-solving [and] the ability to say, ‘Everyone has a place here,'” he said.

The Harris-Walz campaign is continuing where the Biden-Harris campaign left off when it comes to competing in North Carolina. The Biden team already had many offices open across the state and the Harris team has since opened even more campaign offices in more rural parts of North Carolina – a move that proves they’re serious about turning the state blue.

“History is going to be made right here in North Carolina. [We have] 68 days to make transformational change [and] do something good. I don’t want to tell the story that we didn’t do all that we can,” Walz said at the fundraiser. “The football coach in me says leave it all on the field.”

Trump administration’s move to shut down USAID will have major economic impacts on North Carolina

The move will impact more than just the 10,000 workers the agency employs and the humanitarian work it does overseas. North Carolina is the fourth-largest recipient of USAID funding in the United States, with state-based organizations receiving nearly $1 billion a year. That funding helps bolster a robust global health sector that adds $31.9 billion every year to North Carolina’s economy and employs 120,000 people.

To have their voices heard, thousands gather throughout NC to protest Trump, Musk, and Tillis

Earlier this month, thousands of demonstrators gathered at the North Carolina State Capitol in Raleigh to protest President Donald Trump. The protest was part of a larger event “50 states 50 protest 1 day” (50501) to oppose the president’s actions taken in the first month of his second term including a slew of executive orders that have caused chaos and confusion for the people of this country and the federal agencies that support them.

NC Republicans Push to Strip Power from Democratic Leaders—Again

This time, the NC GOP is targeting Attorney General Jeff Jackson, who has recently defended the state from the White House’s federal funding freeze, Elon Musk’s national data breach, and Trump’s attempt to end birthright citizenship.

Senate Bill 58, proposed earlier this month, would prohibit the attorney general from making any legal argument that would invalidate an executive order issued by Trump.
