More new jobs are coming to North Carolina, as Davidson County was selected for a new lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility, providing 352 jobs to the area.

According to the governor’s office, the average salary for the new positions is $50,281, which exceeds the Davidson County average wage of $49,956. The project is estimated to grow the state’s economy by $691 million.

The battery manufacturer is expected to invest more than $230 million to build its first U.S. advanced manufacturing facility in the City of Linwood.

“My meeting with DNP in Tokyo last month was productive and I’m grateful they are building their EV battery pouch manufacturing facility in North Carolina which is yet another sign of our growing clean energy economy,” North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper stated in a press release. “We welcome them to Davidson County where we know they will find a world-class workforce and an excellent quality of life to support their new operation.”

According to The News & Observer, it’s the latest in a string of statewide lithium-based projects —which includes an upcoming Toyota plant in Randolph County, with future facilities near Wilmington and the Triangle.

In addition, Albemarle Corp. and Piedmont Lithium, two lithium mining companies, are seeking to expand operations in Gaston County.
“From the east to the west, North Carolina’s electric vehicle industry is growing exponentially,” N.C. Commerce Secretary Machelle Baker Sanders stated in a press release. “Our natural resources and our reputation for highly skilled talent and strong transportation infrastructure, continue to attract global leaders, like DNP, that share our commitment to sustainability.”
