In A Critical Swing State, VP Harris Gives North Carolina Democratic Voters A Jolt

Vice President Kamala Harris has galvanized voters in swing states – completely wiping out Trump’s swing state lead, according to the latest Bloomberg News/Morning Consult survey.

Late last month, more than 800 joined the first-ever NC Women for Harris virtual call, adding to the national wave of excitement that drummed up following President Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race and endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris.

Coined the “defibrillator to the Democratic Party,” Vice President Harris has re-energized youth, Black and Latine voters across the country, according to national polling

“Frankly, I think she has the opportunity to perhaps outpace turnout with certain constituencies than Barack Obama was able to do in 2008,” Antjuan Seawright, a Democratic strategist, told The Hill. “Her campaign represents something that Barack Obama did not have and the times we’re living through with the Republican Party being more extremist than they ever have been before.”

From Nevada to Florida, local organizations are witnessing an increase in volunteers. More than 10,000 new volunteers have signed up to support Harris and Democrats in Florida, The Hill reports.

“The energy that is on the ground is not only contagious, but it’s all natural,” Nikki Fried, the chair of the Florida Democratic Party, told The Hill

In North Carolina, Democratic leaders are tapping into the wave of energized voters, and informing communities about Project 2025, and what is at stake if Trump wins.

“It is dangerous,” stated U.S. Rep. Alma Adams, during the Zoom call. “It’s going to gut all of the checks and balances that will give Trump virtually unlimited power. Call it what it is. Most people are saying Project 2025, but its correct name is Project 1825 because that’s where Trump wants to take us back to a time when Blacks were enslaved in America, a time when women had no rights. And Social Security was not contemplated as benefits for our seniors and a time when there were no civil rights for Black folks, when there were no laws to protect our environment.”

Senator Rachel Hunt, the Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor, underscored the impact Project 2025 will have on one of the issues North Carolinians care about the most; education.

“Trump’s Project 2025 calls for the elimination of the Department of Education and will get rid of programs that make education more accessible for learners with fewer resources,” Hunt said. “He wants to get rid of the Head Start program, which will deny access to quality early learning for low-income families. Donald Trump would let millions of public-school students who rely on free or reduced lunch go hungry.”

According to NC Newsline, Trump won North Carolina by more than 74,000 votes in the 2020 presidential election. Democrats and local organizations are hoping to close that margin.

“This is going to be a door-to-door fight, this is going to be in the gutter, in the street, and I have never been in a fight that I backed down from,” stated Sen. Val Applewhite, a Cumberland County veteran. Find all you need to know about voter registration and North Carolina’s 2024 presidential election at the NC State Board of Elections website.

Trump administration’s move to shut down USAID will have major economic impacts on North Carolina

The move will impact more than just the 10,000 workers the agency employs and the humanitarian work it does overseas. North Carolina is the fourth-largest recipient of USAID funding in the United States, with state-based organizations receiving nearly $1 billion a year. That funding helps bolster a robust global health sector that adds $31.9 billion every year to North Carolina’s economy and employs 120,000 people.

To have their voices heard, thousands gather throughout NC to protest Trump, Musk, and Tillis

Earlier this month, thousands of demonstrators gathered at the North Carolina State Capitol in Raleigh to protest President Donald Trump. The protest was part of a larger event “50 states 50 protest 1 day” (50501) to oppose the president’s actions taken in the first month of his second term including a slew of executive orders that have caused chaos and confusion for the people of this country and the federal agencies that support them.

NC Republicans Push to Strip Power from Democratic Leaders—Again

This time, the NC GOP is targeting Attorney General Jeff Jackson, who has recently defended the state from the White House’s federal funding freeze, Elon Musk’s national data breach, and Trump’s attempt to end birthright citizenship.

Senate Bill 58, proposed earlier this month, would prohibit the attorney general from making any legal argument that would invalidate an executive order issued by Trump.
