NC Senate Democrats Propose $200 Gas Tax Rebate for Drivers

With rising gas prices in North Carolina and the rising prices of groceries and consumer goods, as a result, many families in the state are struggling. However, at least some members of our state legislature are eager to help.

According to WRAL, Democrats in the North Carolina Senate have proposed a $200 gas tax rebate to help families struggling with the rising costs of gas and groceries. The tax rebate would reach North Carolinians through a bill called the Gas Tax Rebate Act of 2022

If approved, drivers would be eligible to receive the rebate as long as they, as of March 31, 2022, were a North Carolina resident over the age of 18 and have a valid NC driver’s license. The rebates would be issued as either a check or a debit card, and would be sent “as soon as practicable” but no later than Oct. 1.

According to the proposal, funds to pay for the rebate would come from a $1.3 billion transfer from the state’s anticipated over-collection of $4 billion.
