North Carolina Democrats Will ‘Fight Like Hell’ To Protect Abortion Rights

This month, Rep. Deborah Ross, North Carolina Democratic Party Chairwoman Bobbie Richardson, and North Carolina faith leaders gathered to speak out on the leaked draft opinion from the US Supreme Court that would overturn Roe v. Wade.

Rep. Ross called the potential action “needless and careless” and stood alongside faith leaders from the Raleigh area in support of reproductive rights. Rev. Nancy Petty of Pullen Memorial Baptist Church said,  “I can’t think of anything more sinful, more spiritually and morally bankrupt, than holding women’s bodies hostage. When we take away a woman’s God-given right to make decisions about her own body and reproductive rights, we condemn her.”

Bobbie Richardson, chairwoman of the North Carolina Democratic Party, emphasized the party’s commitment to protecting abortion rights and said, “Make no mistake, North Carolina Democrats will continue to fight like hell to protect the rights to access safe, legal abortion.”

Richardson said that overturning Roe v. Wade would be “devastating for the millions of people across North Carolina, whose abortion access and control over their bodies now hang in the balance.” Richardson said the draft opinion is reflective of anti-abortion groups longheld plan to ban abortion across the US.

A recent survey from Meredith College found that 53% of North Carolina voters would want to see a law to expand or keep in place the current provisions of Roe v. Wade. Richardson urged voters to vote for Democrats to protect reproductive freedom and said “there is only one way to protect our reproductive freedom and ensure everyone has the right to make their own health care decisions– elect Democrats up and down the ballot.”

Gov. Stein continues the fight for more affordable energy bills

“Duke Energy’s proposed rate hike is simply too high and comes as the company is also retreating on more affordable clean energy. At a time when families are struggling to make ends meet, we should be doing everything we can to make life more affordable, not less. I will continue to fight on behalf of every North Carolinian to lower costs and grow the economy,” said Stein.

Governor Stein Proposes $13.5 Billion Federal Aid Package for Western NC

The Governor’s message was rooted in a stark disparity: while the federal government has committed roughly $7 billion to North Carolina since the 2024 storm, that figure represents only 12% of the estimated $60 billion in total damages. By contrast, Stein noted that major disasters like Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy saw federal coverage closer to 70%.
