North Carolinians Rally Against GOP-led Redistricting Plan

On October 21st, the North Carolina Democrats held a Redistricting Watch Rally at the North Carolina State Capitol in protest against the NCGA Republicans’ alleged unfair redrawing of congressional maps in favor of their own party.

The displacement of priorities that NC Republicans have is exacerbated by the fact that the state still does not have a budget, yet they are spending their time disenfranchising voters of color and Democratic voters by way of corruption.

The corrupt maps have since been passed by the House and the Senate in the Republican-controlled NC General Assembly.

Representative Don Davis (Democrat) is the state’s only Black male representative in Congress, and the maps could tip the scales against him in a very competitive district.

“North Carolinians came from all parts of the first Congressional District to Raleigh on Monday and Tuesday to share their thoughts on the proposed map; not a single one spoke in favor of the newest gerrymander. Unfortunately, the will of the people is no match for Donald Trump telling Phil Berger and Destin Hall to jump. Just ten months into this dumpster fire of a presidency, Republicans knew they had to even more brutally rig our state’s congressional maps because their agenda of raising costs, trampling on rights, and ripping away healthcare couldn’t win in North Carolina, even under the previous gerrymander,” said NCDP Chair Anderson Clayton in a press release.

North Carolina Democratic Governor Josh Stein also made a statement about the political corruption that is happening in the General Assembly: “The General Assembly works for North Carolina, not Donald Trump. The Republican leadership in the General Assembly has failed to pass a budget, failed to pay our teachers and law enforcement what they deserve, and failed to fully fund Medicaid. Now they are failing you, the voters.”

The rally had an incredible turnout as North Carolinians from across the state rode in by buses to attend. North Carolinians will not back down and will continue to fight against the MAGA agenda. We must continue to hold Senate Leader Phil Berger and other Republicans accountable for their allegiance to Trump and carelessness towards the people of North Carolina.

My ACA premium is increasing 240%

My husband and I are small business owners, so we rely on the Affordable Care Act for health care coverage. We currently pay $400 per month for medical and dental care. But, because of Republicans’ refusal to fix the crisis they’ve created, our monthly medical health premium is expected to cost us 240% more in 2026. And my daughter, a Medicaid recipient, could lose coverage altogether.
