Republican-Led Group Condemns Judge Griffin’s Effort To Erase Ballots

Judge Jefferson Griffin’s effort to toss out 65,000 ballots is impacting North Carolina voters across the board, including Republicans. In a new political ad, one Republican-led group is pushing back against Griffin’s attempt to overturn election results.

According to NC Newsline, the group, RightCount Action, is running the ad in major television markets across the state. The ad features James Danz, a registered Republican from Moore County, who is among the 65,000 voters being challenged by Judge Griffin.

“I voted for [Donald] Trump and Jefferson Griffin,” Danz says in the ad. “I’ve voted Republican my whole life. Now politicians are trying to cancel my vote here in North Carolina,” Danz states in the ad. “Now regardless of how you vote, all of us need to stand together to stop this attack on our elections.”

WRAL reports that the state Republican Party didn’t respond to a request for comment about the ad criticizing Griffin’s tactics, or that the ad is backed by former North Carolina Republican Gov. Pat McCrory.

Back in November, the former governor published an editorial piece in which he showed support for election officials and vouched for the accuracy and integrity of the state’s election. In reference to his 2016 loss, in which he deployed political maneuvers to challenge the governor race results, McCrory noted that he finally accepted the results because “it reflected the will of voters.”

This piece was published weeks before Judge Griffin began his ballot challenges, WRAL reports

In an interview with NC Newsline, Danz described his shock when finding out Griffin was challenging his ballot. Danz stated that he remembers providing a driver’s license number when he registered.

“When it comes to voter integrity, to me that’s an American issue. It’s not a conservative issue or liberal issue,” Danz told NC Newsline.  “I’m a voter. I cast my votes. I want my votes to count”.

Following Threats from Trump, NC Senator Thom Tillis Flips Defense Secretary Vote

Despite his claims of independence, North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis has emerged as a reliable MAGA supporter in Congress. Tillis voted in favor of all of President Trump’s most controversial nominees, including vaccine skeptic Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to lead the Department of Health and Human Services and pro-Putin National Intelligence nominee Tulsi Gabbard.

But the most telling vote involved Tillis’ decision to confirm Pete Hegseth to lead the Department of Defense. Hegseth, a former Fox News host, has an extensive list of misconduct allegations as well as a history of troubling comments reflecting his opposition to women serving in the military.

North Carolina Legislative Session Kicks Off With Hundreds of Bills

Less than a month into the 2025 session, North Carolina lawmakers have introduced nearly 300 bills, with hundreds more expected before next month’s filing deadline. However, given the state’s divided government, not all proposals will survive the legislative process.

Following the 2024 election, Republicans fell just one seat short of a supermajority, meaning Democratic Gov. Josh Stein has the power to veto many GOP-backed bills. Despite this dynamic, several key proposals are gaining attention.
