Trick or Treat time is right around the corner or depending on when you read this story it may have already passed. There are a few things you need for a successful Halloween such as a costume, good PREMIUM candy and time to watch your favorite horror film.
Halloween is usually one of the rare holidays where there’s little to debate about. Take for example the month of December and if Die Hard is a holiday movie or not. The answer to that question is simply yes so just stop the debating. There is one minor thing that will have us divided on Halloween and that is what’s the best candy to eat.
According to our friends at Instacart there is a revolving list of top ten candies through purchases in each state. Instacart launched a new tool that allows folks to enter their zip code to see the “Scare Score” or how much Halloween spirit they have. The score is determined by candy, costume and decor purchases. According to their findings Utah, Texas and California lead the list. But the next part of this great story gives Nightmare on Elm Street vibes.
Outside of the spirit, Instacart wanted to see what were the top candies being brought for the celebration. Below is the 2022 list of the top candies:
- Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
- Peanut M&M’s
- Regular M&M’s
- Tootsie Pops
- Twizzlers
- Hershey’s Milk Chocolate
- Sour Patch Kids
- Candy Corn
- KitKat
- Starburst
The top ten list changed a little bit from last year with Tootsie Pops, Sour Patch Kids and Candy Corn cracking the list this year. This list was broken down even more to determine what was the highest selling candy in each state. Here’s where I deliver the sad news gang.
North Carolina’s top selling candy in this year’s study was Candy Corn. Now if you are like me you are probably asking yourself who’s eating Candy Corn? This is the last candy on earth that is furthest from my mind to even be considered for anything. This is the last state in the country where I would have thought this would be a bestseller. I really had to do a search on what Candy Corn is made of.
Honestly I have my theories on who’s eating this horrible candy and let’s start with the GOP lead North Carolina General Assembly. It would at least partially explain how we got these horrible redistricting maps. I can see them now trading off Candy Corn for favorable districts drawn. It wouldn’t be the craziest thing that has happened with them this year, party hopping Tricia still holds that title.
Another theory is probably those Pumpkin Spice people. The views and opinions of this writer does not represent those of the staff of NC Voices. Now I will not apologize for coming after Pumpkin Spice folks at all. I have seen you lose your absolute minds over this mess in causing near car crashes. You are probably dropping them in your lattes while holding up morning traffic. I will stop there before my story gets banned.
I’m hoping next year we get a respectable premium candy my North Carolina peeps. A Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup (South Carolina got that right) or M&M’s would be nice to replace Candy Corn. NC Voices would like to know what is your favorite Halloween candy. If you say Candy Corn just exit the post now.
