The long warm days of summer are over for North Carolina and fall is upon us. Many of us made the journey east to our beautiful beaches. Now we will change directions and head west to visit some of the most picturesque mountain views this side of the Mississippi.
The team at NC Voices wanted to share a few fall guides to help plan your fall visit to western North Carolina.
Explore Asheville has a fall color interactive map that shows you where fall foliage is starting to show. Over the next six weeks, many western parts of our state will be at or near peak fall colors. Our first suggestion is to take a look at the map and make plans to drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway to Graveyard Fields. This is one of the first places annually showing fall foliage.
Other locations like Mount Mitchell and Grandfather Mountain are also showing fall colors and peaking in the next week or two. While you are there, take a stop in Asheville for some great food and brews. You can’t go wrong with visiting vineyards near Hendersonville, North Carolina. You can’t go wrong with any of the vineyards in the area but Point Lookout Vineyards is a must-see, the same tells the story.
If you need other activities, check out Our State’s guide to seeing other beautiful fall foliage locations outside of the Blue Ridge Parkway. They have everything you need from apple picking to camping under the stars and even getting a scoop of pumpkin ice cream. I know many of you go crazy when it’s pumpkin season so here you go and thank us later. Blowing Rock is your spot to visit Kilwins and see what the fuss is about. I personally think pumpkin anything is overrated but it’s not about me, it’s about you. If you are anti-pumpkin then go and pick some apples at Moravian Falls but remember it’s peak fall foliage season so make reservations.
No matter what you decide to do out west you can’t go wrong with any of the choices or ideas.
Have fun and enjoy yourselves in western North Carolina!
