Wilmington Just Keeps on Winning: Riverwalk In The Running For Nation’s Best

A few weeks ago we told you about Wilmington being rated as one of the best beer cities in the country. This week we can share another accolade for the Port City as Wilmington came in third place at the best riverwalk city in the country in 2022. The USA Today’s annual 10Best poll annually rates everything from food to drinks and hotels. Its travel category features parks and museums along with trails and riverwalks.

An expert panel of editors has picked the Port City in its top three the last two years with Wilmington securing a nomination in 2023. The riverwalk scored high on being colorful according to USA today staff with over 200 shops, bars and cafes. Annual festivals and attractions such as Riverfest, the Azalea festival and the North Carolina Battleship are just a few highlights of the riverwalk.

The beautiful riverwalk stretches from Nun Street on the southside of downtown to the Isabella Holmes Bridge at the edge on the northside of downtown. This is a great experience and one of the top attractions in Wilmington. One of our favorite places to stop on the riverwalk is Elijah’s Restaurant located on the south end of the 1.75 mile long riverwalk. We are fans of the fresh crab dip and this dish never disappoints.

After your meal, walk off that good food and see what the riverwalk has to offer. If you find yourself on the north end then head up to aView Rooftop Bar & Bistro located on the top floor of the Aloft Hotel. This rooftop indoor/outdoor location has some of the most beautiful views of the riverwalk and downtown. This is a beautiful backdrop for summertime sunsets and memorable pictures. Trust us, there is no wrong place along the riverwalk to shop, eat or have a great drink. Learn more about the many options for dining and entertaining on Wilmington Riverwalk here.

Participants can vote here once a day for the riverwalk — and in every category. The contest for Best Riverwalk closes Feb. 6. As of press, Wilmington ranked number eight on the leaderboard. Winners are announced mid-February.
