VP Harris Makes Historic Visit to Abortion Clinic, Underscoring Importance of Reproductive Rights

Vice President Kamala Harris visited an abortion clinic in Minnesota earlier this month, a first for any U.S. President or Vice President. The visit to a Planned Parenthood clinic in St. Paul signals the importance of reproductive rights to the case the Biden campaign will make to voters this year.

In the aftermath of the Supreme Court dismantling Roe, state laws have varied widely. While Republicans in North Carolina quickly passed a 12-week abortion ban and onerous new restrictions, Democrats in states like Minnesota passed a new law guaranteeing the right to an abortion.

Now women from all over the country are coming to Minnesota for abortions.

“Since Roe was overturned, I’ve cared for patients from everywhere,” Dr. Sarah Traxler, the chief medical officer for Planned Parenthood North Central States said.

The Vice President met with Dr. Traxler at the clinic and afterward reaffirmed the Biden administration’s commitment to defending abortion access. “It is absolutely about health care and reproductive health care,” she said.
