Online sports betting officially started in North Carolina on March 11, nine months after Gov. Roy Cooper signed the state’s sports betting bill into law.
This new venture is expected to generate significant revenue, which has been traditionally spent in other states such as Virginia and Maryland. You might have seen comedian Kevin Hart or former NFL star Ron Gronkowski promoting this new development on television or social media.
Remember, if you are gambling please gamble responsibly.
Eight operators, along with their partners, have been approved to begin accepting bets. These operators are:
- bet365 NC
- BetMGM NC
- Caesars Sportsbook
- DraftKings NC
- Fanatics Betting and Gaming
- FanDuel NC
- PENN Sports Interactive (ESPN BET NC)
- Underdog Sports
If you are more of the traditional, in-person bettor then don’t worry there are places you can go in person and try to win a few dollars.
In North Carolina, in-person sports betting was already legal, but the new bill expands the locations where it will be offered. There are eight eligible facilities to host brick-and-mortar sportsbooks, including:
- PNC Arena in Raleigh
- WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary
- Bank of America Stadium and Spectrum Center in Charlotte
- Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord
- North Wilkesboro Speedway
- Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro
- Quail Hollow Country Club in Charlotte
Have fun, be safe, and remember to gamble responsibly. There is a North Carolina Gambling Addiction hotline to call if you or a loved one needs help with gambling addiction. Good luck and may the odds be in your favor.
