TV Stations Take Down False Ad Attacking Democratic Senate Candidate Cheri Beasley

Source: News & Observer

At least six media outlets have pulled an ad from the National Republican Senatorial Campaign committee attacking Democratic candidate Cheri Beasley. Cox Media Group determined that the ad contains false statements by incorrectly alleging that Beasley set a child pornography offender free during her tenure as a judge.

Dory MacMillan, a spokeswoman for Beasley’s campaign, told the News & Observer, “Washington Republicans have been caught lying about Cheri Beasley’s record. Voters know Cheri worked with law enforcement to hold violent offenders accountable, and she will continue to keep our communities safe as North Carolina’s next U.S. Senator.”

Beasley was the first black woman to serve as chief justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court and the first black woman to be elected to a statewide office in North Carolina without first being appointed by the Governor. Beasley has also served as a Superior Court judge, a District Court judge, and a public defender.

Beasley will face Rep. Ted Budd who defeated former Governor Pat McCrory and former Rep. Mark Walker in the Republican primary. Budd currently represents North Carolina’s 13th district consisting of Davie County and surrounding areas. Budd is endorsed by former President Donald Trump.
